How Think and Grow Rich’s Chapter on Sex Transmutation Led To an Epiphany
Law of Attraction
Shift Happens – Sex and Money!
It is curious how a person can read something again and see it as completely new, noticing things never seen before. It is not the written word that has changed, it is the reader who has changed.
A little while ago I was re-reading chapter 11 of Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Having already read the book several times, I was quite familiar with what I was reading.
I admit, the title of this chapter of Think and Grow Rich, “The Mystery of Sex Transmutation – The Tenth Step Toward Riches”, was a bit of a hinderance for me the first few readings. So, perhaps that is part of the reason it took so long before I noticed something new during this reading.
It was not something new about the teaching, but something new about ME. A hidden reason why my journey toward wealth has been so fraught, cluttered with stumbling-blocks.
Chapter 11 boils down to two questions:
1. How may one communicate with sources of knowledge which are not available through the ORDINARY rate of vibration of thought?
2. Are there known sources of knowledge which are available only to genii, and if so, WHAT ARE THESE SOURCES, and exactly how may they be reached? <
In the build up to these two questions, Napoleon provides a list of Mind Stimuli a person can purposely direct toward answering these questions. Fitting well with the chapter title, he specifies:
“The desire for sex expression comes at the head of the list of stimuli, which most effectively “step-up” the vibrations of the mind and start the “wheels” of physical action.”
I am learning lately that the part of Think and Grow Rich most people miss is hidden in the word ‘and’. Too many people believe the magic is in thinking, and by doing so, riches just appear. But those who read the book, and take it to heart, realize that action taken is where the real magic happens. You can say your affirmations until you’re blue in the face, but until your actions are aligned, they will not happen. My new mantra is:
Thought – Word – Deed *** Only when these are in alignment, is there TRUTH.
So, my action is to press on in discovering the answer to the questions above by stimulating my mind. In this chapter we have a list of things we can do. (Action is right in the middle of Be – Do – Have)
Here is that list right out of Think and Grow Rich chapter 11:
THE TEN MIND STIMULI
The human mind responds to stimuli, through which it may be “keyed up” to high rates of vibration, known as enthusiasm, creative imagination, intense desire, etc. The stimuli to which the mind responds most freely are: —
1. The desire for sex expression
2. Love
3. A burning desire for fame, power, or financial gain, MONEY
4. Music
5. Friendship between either those of the same sex, or those of the opposite sex.
6. A Master Mind alliance based upon the harmony of two or more people who ally themselves for spiritual or temporal advancement
7. Mutual suffering, such as that experienced by people who are persecuted
8. Auto-suggestion
9. Fear
10. Narcotics and alcohol
This reading of the chapter for me was focused on this list. A list of ACTIONS I can take to advance to genius level. Taking into account Napoleon’s definition of Genius:
“a man who has discovered how to increase the vibrations of thought to the point where he can freely communicate with sources of knowledge not available through the ordinary rate of vibration of thought.” – Napoleon Hill
I read the list several times. Then I noticed just after the list, Napoleon said:
“Eight of these stimuli are natural and constructive. Two are destructive.”
Oh my… he doesn’t say two may be destructive, but rather two ARE destructive. These two should be avoided, so it seems best to know which two. After I read that sentence, I immediately went back to the list to scan for the destructive two. I made note of the two as I went down the list again. I wrote #3 and #10 down and was quite proud of the fact I had come up with them so quickly.
Something didn’t feel quite right, Spirit nudged me, so I went and read the list again. Immediately realizing I had jumped to a conclusion, completely missing the fact that the two destructive actions are listed at the bottom. #9 and #10 are the destructive ones… of course. Fear and Narcotics (alcohol).
So, what is it about #3 that made me select it?
A burning desire for fame, power, or financial gain, MONEY
What is really intriguing to me is the fact that there are four ‘burning desires’ listed in number three on the list. That should’ve peaked my attention alone, since I spend so much time on that number with my book… but it didn’t. (I explain a little about my focus on four in previous posts.) Once again, I was confronted with the question I thought I had answered long ago:
What is your relationship with money?
Apparently, I have not answered that question correctly, truthfully, enough to break through that paradigm. There is a deep-seated shame I have been coddling and that I need to take action to remove so I may advance. In my next post, “Who do you serve, God or Mammon?”, I will address that question, how it continues to plague me, and what I am doing about it.
For now, though, I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about how Napoleon’s thoughts on sex transmutation in Think and Grow Rich helped me identify a relationship in need of repair.
